As an Associate at Stonewater, you provide strategic business advice to help organizations elevate their performance. You are tasked primarily with the collection of data and creation of client documents. Many a client problem arises from an absence of relevant data, so one of your main responsibilities is to interview knowledgeable parties and help formulate hypotheses. After sufficient inputs are gathered—typically via conversations with value-chain participants, interviews with industry specialists, quantitative surveys, and analysis of client data—the focus of effort turns to writing organized, concise, precise, and insightful recommendations. You learn and apply a wide variety of skills such as presenting engagement findings, structuring research agendas, interviewing subject matter experts, and managing research analysts. You own select business development activities such as helping develop proposals and identifying potential prospects who would benefit from Stonewater’s capabilities.
As a Consultant at Stonewater, you take responsibility for a project by working face-to-face with clients to diagnose complex problems and recommend data-driven solutions. You will lead associates and research analysts to ensure that the most practicable outcomes are delivered according to project plans. Consultants are responsible for multiple workstreams on larger engagements or are fully responsible for smaller engagements. As integral members of the firm, Consultants act as role models for our Associates, onboarding new hires and mentoring others. You lead firm-building activities and internal training programs to expand your leadership skills and share your specific interests—board games, fitness, etc.—with colleagues. Consultants typically commence their role after mastering the Associate role, or enter as working professionals or advanced degree holders who seek to work with bright and curious colleagues.
As a Manager at Stonewater, you take a leading role in identifying, designing, and delivering improvement opportunities for the world’s leading organizations. You serve as the critical liaison between client needs and project-delivered solutions. During the initial stages of a project, you identify key questions or problems and develop an analysis and delivery structure for the engagement. You then oversee day-to-day management of the project itself, guiding a team of two to five consultants. You constantly develop and apply your leadership, project management, client engagement, and problem-solving skills. In addition to project work, you help win new clients by publishing intellectual capital and contributing to project proposals. To our clients, you serve as an expert adviser on the many pertinent issues affecting their businesses and industries. To your fellow consultants, you are a proven leader who dependably steers projects toward success.
As a Principal at Stonewater, you create value not only for clients by delivering strategic advice, but also for Stonewater by driving business development and the creation of intellectual capital. You are primarily responsible for upholding the overall quality and integrity of client projects. Maintaining strong client relationships is crucial, so you need good interpersonal skills to nurture these relationships up to the board level. Junior colleagues look to you as a role model as you motivate and guide them to deliver Stonewater’s strategic vision. You demonstrate thought leadership and develop subject matter expertise in your practice area to help clients solve complex business problems. You work closely with our partners to identify strategic new opportunities for Stonewater and master end-to-end business development activities from creating proposals to leading sales meetings.

Associate Consultant / Senior Associate Consultant

As an Associate Consultant with Stonewater, you will be supporting engagements for Fortune 500 corporations, primarily for core clients in the firm’s Payments & Financial Services and Telecom practices. You will drive the research and fact-gathering process for projects, analyze and synthesize findings, develop deliverables, and present recommendations to clients.

The work you will be doing for clients includes (but is not limited to): best practice analysis, landscape assessment, benchmarking, market segmentation and sizing, go-to-market strategy execution, and more.

The recruitment process is designed to hire individuals who are leaders among their classmates and will in the future be startup founders, investors, government policy makers, nonprofit leaders, and chief executive officers. We carefully consider each candidates’ individual strengths and weaknesses and take the necessary time—sometimes up to two months—to select individuals who can deliver notable results for our clients and build Stonewater’s presence across the globe.

It is important to us to spend the time to learn about your unique talents, perspectives, and capabilities. In order to develop a complete picture, our recruitment process comprises of a writing and PowerPoint test followed by three interviews with Stonewater consultants and partners.

Our consultants tackle a wide variety of impactful and challenging questions on a daily basis. Thus, it is important for them to convey their thoughts in a structured, thoughtful, and polished manner across a variety of channels. This exercise tests the ability of applicants to internalize a question, develop a position, and convey it in two common formats:

MS Word: This output conveys the thoughts and concepts of the applicant in well-structured prose. This is the format used by Stonewater consultants to deliver white papers to central banks.

MS PowerPoint: This output presents the applicant’s position in a graphical and viewer-friendly slide presentation. This is the main format that Stonewater uses to discuss outputs and key initiatives with corporate leaders.

Each round of interviews includes two main components to varying degrees:

Fit questions that help us learn more about you and your background, interests, passions, and career aspirations

Case questions that test your analytical, mathematical, and critical thinking skills

Case interview practice materials are readily available, and we would recommend that you thoroughly familiarize yourself with the structure of case interviews before interviewing.

We seek to attract the best and brightest consultants from across the globe. As a result, it is often impractical for us to conduct in-person interactions with candidates. Our recruiting process is designed to be geographically flexible, and allows for assessments and interviews to be conducted via email and video conference. Detailed instructions will be provided at every step of the recruitment process.

Stonewater accepts applications for Associate Interns all year round, and onboarding of Associate Interns is periodically scheduled.

Associate Interns can expect to spend a minimum of 10 weeks and up to 6 months at Stonewater, though this is contingent on factors including academic obligations, business requirements, and scheduling.

Associate Interns are expected to work full-time during their internship.

While Associates and Associate Interns can work remotely around the world, at least 6 of their working hours must fall between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Kuala Lumpur time.
